The maps of Innis and Tallu from the first two books have familiar coastlines. Surnames, given names, and place names aren’t so different from those you’ve heard before. You see parallels in religion, customs, and history.
And, of course, you picked up on the quotes lifted from our own history and from a few larger than life figures of our time.
Phrases characters like Nigel and Seth sometimes echo are from our own time.
They are us.
