Spirit Runner Chapter 24 – Mothers
Glyneth can’t see worth a damn, but her vision handicap has honed her hearing. The natural compensating phenomenon.
She’s not a nice person. Vindictive. Petty. Calculating.
But, to some degree, she is a product of her environment. Nature vs nurture. You may remember from book one, the Firstborn lineage laws dictate which biological sire or dam can claim parental rights to a child.
Boys belong to the nene who is named as their father. Girls belong to the nenan who gave birth to them.
But what happens when lineage laws and human nature are in conflict?
Glyneth is a mother, yet she cannot mother either of her children.
Her daughter is a nameless Raven.
Her son is the Prince of the Firstborn.
Denying a mother’s instincts twists her. Tempts her. Taunts her.
These repressed feelings have taken on the psychological manifestation she calls The List.
