Heart of a Chalyn: Chapter 76

A short note that seems in need of saying.

I imagined and wrote the Drowner and the Green Death plagues well before reality beset us with a real pandemic in COVID-19.

The death toll of 1.47 million worldwide (as of tonight, 2020/11/30) is real, not fantasy. The lockdowns, quarantines, loss of income, and damage to our lives and our families is real.

Nothing in this fictional story can come close to the devastation the pandemic has had on our world.

I could toss a decade of work in the trash. Erase the Drowner and the Green Death. Replace that with a different trauma, though I’m not quite sure what that might be.

But fantasy is grounded in reality.

I chose not to look away.

The pain is real.
