Heart of a Chalyn: Chapter 39

What’s up with Calum?

Sadly, the Beast is back.

When Calum took the throne, Dowan came slithering out of the shadows. All his life, he had craved the power of that throne. Until death had denied him what was rightfully his.

Wrongful death at the hands of a thieving Firstborn animal.

Dowan Iverach is a sociopath. Filled with hate. Dead, but not gone. Rachel had walled him away from Calum at Monaughty. But Calum is alone now, and Dowan is back to haunt his son.

Now is his chance to claim his due. And to reap his revenge.

After all Calum has survived, it’s hard to see Calum turn turn into his father. It was hard to write, because I feel protective of him. But it’s his story and it has to play out.

Calum begins hearing Dowan’s voice again. Rarely at first, then with increasing frequency. Dowan begins creeping into Calum’s inner dialog. His POV chapters become dual-perspectives with Dowan’s voice growing more assertive and overtaking Calum’s.

Calum takes on Dowan’s grudges. His hatred. His paranoia.

Light a candle for Calum. He’s going to need the good vibes.
