Book 3 is My Favorite

Every book is my favorite once I reach that magical day I’m sufficiently content with the story to send it off for publication. It’s the satisfaction of tying up loose ends, finishing the thousandth “last” proofread, and stamping the story with the elusive, if not literal, “The End.”

The Witch of Lurago was all that and more. I love this book. Nevermind authoring. As a reader of books, I love this book.

It’s due out May 1.

In context of the classic five-act play, The Witch of Lurago is the Rising Action leading up to the Climax. Considering Rootstock Saga is a four-book series, this is where good gets really good.

World-building checked off. All the major characters fleshed out and their arcs climbing their intended trajectories. Game board set for the final gambit.

Yet these are merely the mechanics of storytelling. The elements we’re told Artificial Intelligence will produce in the future, usurping us as humanity’s storytellers.

Sweet Mother, I hope not.

Because beyond the mechanics of storytelling lies the intangible element that mesmerizes us, like the sparks flying skyward since first we gathered around a campfire. The flow and feeling of turning words into stories. Phrases that strike a chord in our humanity. Scenes the mind can see, smell, and hear. Characters so real we feel we know them. We are them.

It’s rare to grasp that golden ring of storytelling, and I’m not in the league of the best who do.

But this one… comes closer.
