Isobel can sense the source of an illness or extent of an injury with a touch of her hands. The “laying on of hands” Nigel references in Chapter 6 of Legend of the Storm Hawks is a hint of this type of mindgift.

Empaths are intuitive healers, able to perceive what lies beneath the skin. Their mindgift allows them to see inside another living creature, to perceive pain as heat, to traverse veins, bones, and sinew to diagnose ailments.

An empath’s skill increases with practice, and the strongest learn to affect changes in the bodies under their care. Knit a wound. Cool a fever. Calm a racing heart.

Empaths are also acutely sensitive to emotion. They perceive the emotions of those around them as tastes or smells.
